Düsseldorf (AP) - The choreographer dancer, filmmaker and author Raimund Hoghe died at the age of 72.

The Tanzhaus NRW announced on Friday evening in Düsseldorf that he was one of the “most important protagonists of contemporary dance”.

Hoghe worked as a dramaturge for the renowned Wuppertal choreographer Pina Bausch in the 1980s.

In 1994 he choreographed "Meinwärts" his first solo as a dancer.

Hoghe's pieces dealt with socio-political issues such as dealing with refugees.

He has received numerous awards for his work.

Last year he was honored with the German Dance Prize.

Raimund Hoghe was most recently a guest at Tanzhaus NRW with “Postcards from Vietnam” (2020).
