Berlin (dpa) - According to a survey, the vast majority of teachers feel their job in the Corona crisis is more stressful than before.

In a survey by the health insurance company DAK, 84 percent said they had the feeling that everyday school life under corona conditions led to overtime.

90 percent agreed with the statement that teaching was significantly more strenuous compared to the situation a year ago.

The most common reasons were the enforcement of the corona rules among the students, their own health protection and the absence of colleagues.

For the study, which was carried out on behalf of the DAK by the Institute for Therapy and Health Research (IFT-Nord) in Kiel, 2300 teachers in North Rhine-Westphalia were interviewed in October.

According to the head of the study, Reiner Hanewinkel, it can also be transferred to other federal states and schools, since the exceptional situation and challenges are largely comparable nationwide.

Most teachers (66 percent) are not afraid at work because of Corona.

At least a third agreed with the statement that they were afraid of going to school because of the situation.

Two out of three respondents said they had been more worried about their own health since Corona.

Fear of being infected in school children was expressed by 51.5 percent.

48.6 said they were not afraid or not at all afraid of it.

“We are currently experiencing how badly the mental health of many teachers is suffering from the corona pandemic,” said DAK boss Andreas Storm.

The work situation of teachers under pandemic conditions is increasingly in the focus of politics.

The President of the German Teachers' Association, Heinz-Peter Meidinger, welcomed the study presented.

This provides a comprehensive inventory of the additional workload for teachers in Corona times and shows concrete need for action.

“Many teachers are worried about their own health and that of their students.

This is an indication that the current hygiene protection measures are not sufficient. "
