Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the border region between the Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia, a German-Dutch police team is to be deployed in the future.
He strives for a structured cooperation with cross-border police teams (GPT), said NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) on a request from the SPD parliamentary group in the interior committee of the state parliament.
He suggested setting up a GPT in the three-country corner - on the German border with Belgium and the Netherlands - and one on the Lower Rhine.
With his Dutch counterpart Ferdinand Grapperhaus, he agreed last November that he would be able to inaugurate at least one of these additional police teams this year.
Reul referred to a successful cross-border police team in Bad Bentheim in Lower Saxony on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia.
There every crew of a patrol car is mixed German-Dutch.
A total of 20 police officers are on duty in the teams.
