Covid-19: more than 206,000 positive cases in 24 hours in France

The number of Covid-19 contaminations has risen to more than 206,000 over the past 24 hours, according to data from Public Health France published Tuesday evening.

A little earlier in the day, the new Minister of Health François Braun had already announced during a hearing at the National Assembly that the number of contaminations “should slightly exceed 200,000” over the last 24 hours.

The precise figure published by the health authorities reports 206,554 cases.

A wave "below the January peak"

The seventh epidemic wave "has been increasing in recent days" and "we have recorded around 120,000 cases (per day) on average this past week, with a number of cases which should slightly exceed 200,000 this evening", declared François Braun at the start of a discussion on the "health monitoring and safety" bill.

Faced with a virus that "circulates more and faster, we must protect the population and ensure the impact of this recovery on the health system", pleaded the minister before the Law Commission, the day after his appointment in the Borne government. II.

Noting the increase in admissions to conventional hospital wards and, to a lesser extent, to critical care, this emergency doctor stressed that it had so far been "far below the January peak" and without comparison with previous waves, "on an even greater scale".

“However, we are extremely attentive to the evolution of the situation in the context that we know about the hospital”, continued François Braun.

And "contrary to what some claim, the government's strategy is clear" in the face of this wave, he claimed, calling for "finding all the right reflexes".
