The County Administrative Board of Gävleborg has inspected Microsoft's construction of data halls in Stackbo, Valbo, and makes the assessment that earthworks cause a drainage of groundwater and that it can not be ruled out that it has caused problems with running wells for residents in the area.

In a proposal for a decision, which Microsoft will now have to comment on, the Gävleborg County Administrative Board wants the company to apply for a permit from the Land and Environmental Court for its water impact, and establishes a control program to keep track of groundwater in the area.

The County Administrative Board cannot order Microsoft to compensate the residents, but an environmental court can do so.

SVT has contacted Microsoft for an interview.

In an email, the company replies that

"we are reviewing the decision and will return to the County Administrative Board within the allotted time"
