Tourism is picking up again after the long interruption caused by the Covid pandemic.

We are not yet at the pre-crisis level, but the increase has been clear since January with 250 million arrivals over the first five months of 2022, against 77 million over the same period in 2021, with sometimes this resumption of airports overwhelmed by crowds and lack of staff.

The Correspondents' World Tour looks back on this restart in the four corners of the world.

- In Israel, tourists are returning in large numbers, reports our correspondent in Jerusalem, Michel Paul.

The holy places deserted since the start of the pandemic are coming back to life.

Here as elsewhere, certain tourist infrastructures such as airports are struggling to cope with this return to normal.

- For more than ten years, Egypt, one of the world's great tourist destinations, has not finished taking the blows: revolution, chaos, terrorism, Covid and now war in Ukraine.

Our correspondent in Cairo, Alexandre Buccianti takes stock.

- Italy, the first western country hit by Covid-19 in January 2020, is recording a clear recovery in tourism, even in the absence of the Chinese and Russians, notes our correspondent in Rome, Anne Le Nir.

- In Mexico, we no longer really talk about the return of tourists because the country has never closed its borders during the health crisis and has applied few restrictions, underlines our correspondent in Mexico City, Gwendolina Duval.

However, this year is particularly good for the sector.
