The Covid-19 pandemic "continues to accelerate" worldwide, with "the last million cases reported in just eight days", warned on Monday the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

"We know that the pandemic is much more than a health crisis, it is an economic, social and, in many countries, political crisis. Its effects will be felt for decades", he added, then that many countries have entered a phase of deconfinement to revive their economies.

- Positive tennis and soccer -

Croatian tennis player Borna Coric (33rd in the world) announced on Monday, as the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (19th) had done the day before, that he had tested positive at Covid-19. The two players participated in the Adria Tour, a tennis party organized by the world Serbian N.1 Novak Djokovic in the Balkans without sanitary measures. According to local press, Djokovic's physical trainer and Dimitrov's trainer also tested positive.

At the same time, the Red Star of Belgrade - host city of the first stage in mid-June of the Adria Tour -, announced that five of its players had been contaminated, after a disputed meeting in the Serbian capital in front of 16,000 enthusiastic football supporters .

- Avoid Melbourne -

Faced with the appearance of six sources of contamination in Melbourne, Australian officials urged their compatriots to avoid going to the big city in the South.

Victoria health official Brett Sutton blamed the spate of new cases for a loosening of the population, warning that the situation was now "dangerous" and that there was "no plan B" .

Australia totals nearly 7,500 cases, and 102 people have died from the coronavirus.

The pandemic has killed at least 468,518 people worldwide since China officially reported the disease's onset in December, AFP reported from official sources at 11:00 GMT Monday.

The United States is the most affected country, with at least 119,977 deaths, followed by Brazil (50,617), the United Kingdom (42,632), Italy (34,634) and France (29,640).
