Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - From Monday all over 60 year olds can get an appointment for the corona vaccination.

Significantly more vaccines were delivered last week, said the Ministry of Social Affairs in Stuttgart on Tuesday.

The waiting lists for those over 80 were only used by around 20 to 40 people every day.

"Of this age group, well over 70 percent have already received a first vaccination," said Minister Manne Lucha (Greens) according to the announcement.

"That is why we are now taking the next step and will open to everyone over the age of 60 from Monday."

So far, they were only eligible to vaccinate for certain pre-existing illnesses or because of their occupation.

In particular, the ministry called on all people over 70 to book vaccination appointments in the coming days.

"Due to the further opening from Monday, a strong rush via the website and the hotline can be expected again," says Lucha.

However, it is still possible for them to make an appointment after the weekend.

In addition, vaccination days with the vaccine from Astrazeneca are planned.

This is possible due to the increasing deliveries.

The Standing Vaccination Commission currently recommends the vaccine primarily to people over 60. "The vaccine is highly effective and harmless," assured Lucha.

According to the announcement, the vaccination centers will inform about the actions on site.
