Lebanon recorded a new record yesterday with the number of deaths due to the Corona virus, 12 deaths, which brought the total number to 138 deaths, thus Lebanon topped a list of countries "at a rate of doubling the number of victims" who are harvested by the epidemic every 20 days, and forcing the Lebanese government to extend the general mobilization until the end of the year Ongoing.

Yesterday, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health announced the registration of 532 new coronavirus cases, which brings the total number of confirmed cases to 13,687.

And it reached 75 critical cases as of yesterday. The number of these people is expected to increase, while hundreds of injuries are still recorded daily.

The high number of deaths is due to the increase in the number of injured, according to Dr. Edmond Abboud, an advisor to the Lebanese Minister of Health, Hamad Hassan, noting that the majority of the dead yesterday exceeded 70, and most of them suffer from incurable or chronic diseases, but they are "victims of the epidemic."

The most dangerous is what was mentioned in the report of the National Operations Room for Disaster Management, where Lebanon tops the list of doubling the number of deaths (the number of victims doubles every twenty days, which means that after twenty days 24 deaths are recorded within one day), surpassing all of Iraq (doubling The death figures are every 42 days), Saudi Arabia (51 days), Russia (63 days), the United States (100 days), Turkey (117 days) and China (184 days).

According to the report, about 16% of the victims are between 60 and 69 years old, and about 18% are between 50 and 59 years old, while the death rate for those over the age of 70 exceeds 56%.

The Lebanese Al-Akhbar newspaper quoted doctors as saying, “What we are witnessing today is not the second wave of the virus, but the culmination of the first wave. The main challenge will be to distinguish between infections, given the similarity of symptoms of Corona and seasonal influenza, and in the doubling of demand for respirators, because some are infected People with chronic flu diseases require hospitalization, and some of them urgently need respirators. "

The newspaper continues, "This means a double pressure on the already flabby health sector, and although Lebanon received a number of artificial respirators after the Beirut port explosion, in addition to importing other quantities, sources concerned with the equipment import sector confirmed that a large number of available devices are unable to. I have to work because of the lack of a lot of medical supplies. "

As a result of this accelerated spread of the virus, the Supreme Defense Council in Lebanon today extended the general mobilization in the country until December 31.

The head of the Lebanese caretaker government, Hassan Diab, said in a meeting of the Defense Council today, "We are at a sensitive stage in the confrontation with Corona," noting that "the number of injuries is increasing in a way that suggests that if the rise continues, we will lose control of the epidemic."

He pointed out that "the number of deaths is remarkably high, and I do not see the need to renew the general mobilization until the end of this year."
