Several people have been killed in a shooting in a Copenhagen shopping center.

That said police chief inspector Søren Thomassen on Sunday evening at a press conference in the Danish capital.

Shots had previously been reported in the Fields shopping center in the south of the Danish capital.

A little later, the police reported that one person had been arrested.

Chief Inspector Thomassen said he was a 22-year-old Dane.

Thomassen was initially unable to say how many victims there were.

The previous information is associated with uncertainty, it is a kind of chaos phase.

The police were alerted at around 5:30 p.m. and are still on the scene with strong forces.

Thomassen could not initially rule out a terrorist act.

Pictures and amateur videos showed people fleeing the building in panic.

An eyewitness told broadcaster DR that he heard three or four very loud bangs while he was in a store with his family.

Then other people ran into the store and reported shots, after which he and his family fled through an emergency exit, the man said.

The police were deployed in large numbers, and a helicopter hovered over the area.

The area has been cordoned off.

The police called on eyewitnesses to provide video and photo material.

Witnesses also told the Jyllands-Posten newspaper that they had heard shots.

"You didn't know what was happening.

Suddenly chaos broke out everywhere," 20-year-old Emilie Jeppesen told the newspaper.

Her friend Astrid Kofoed Jørgensen said: "Everyone in the restaurant was sent to the kitchen, then we sat there and we could hear three or four shots."

Field's is a large shopping center in the relatively new Ørestad area.

The large multi-purpose hall Royal Arena is also nearby.

A sold-out concert by British singer Harry Styles was planned there on Sunday.

Copenhagen Mayor Sophie H. Andersen was shocked by the shots.

It was "terrible," Andersen tweeted Sunday night.

"We don't yet know exactly how many people are injured or dead, but it's very serious." The city is in close contact with the police and is ready to help.
