When they have not slept in the dark, they are deprived of electricity for a good part of the day: the inhabitants of Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire, the two main cities of the Congo, have suffered in recent days from long untimely cuts and power cuts that disrupt small activities.

Near the so-called “papa Gaz '” square, in the famous Batignolles district, Grâce has been running a hairdressing salon for three years.

This afternoon, she sleeps on the floor in her establishment where the heat prevails.

Due to a lack of electricity, her fan and all the appliances she uses are off.

You can go all day without power and it is in the evening that it arrives.

Without current nothing can work.

Even then, if a client comes in to have a braid or just have her head cleaned, she cannot be satisfied.

We are penalized because we have no power,

 ”laments the hairdresser.

Grace cannot afford a generator and her business is running empty.

It's a shortfall because we pay the rent and even the electricity as well.

Often we don't have enough recipes.

We still have to put our hands in our own pocket,

 ”she says.

In Brazzaville as in Pointe-Noire, no area is spared by cuts.

According to the commercial management of the Electricity Energy Company of Congo (2EC), they are caused, among other things, by overloading transformers.

The electricity sector is in serious trouble.

It would take billions of CFA to remedy it,

 ”indicates this direction.

But for now, no investment plan is on the table.
