Presented with great fanfare alongside the four other new Parisian stars on Saturday before the match against Strasbourg, Gianluigi Donnarumma was entitled to a great ovation from the public at the Porte d'Auteuil.

While he is just beginning his preparation after a summer which will have made him enter the big leagues by winning the Euro with Italy and being named best player of the tournament, "Gigio" took the time to give an interview to

Corriere dello Sport

to discuss his departure from AC Milan.

“I spent eight years in Milan, it was my home, I had wonderful moments there.

I will always remain a supporter of the club.

(…) Eight years cannot be forgotten, but I needed to change to grow, to improve myself and to become stronger.

I felt the need for new spaces, for a new reality, ”he explained to our transalpine colleagues.

Donnarumma, who was at the end of his contract with the Rossoneri, claims to have made his choices "alone", specifying that his agent, the influential Mino Raiola, "respects the wishes of his players 100%" before "of course to do everything to meet their demands ”.

Donnarumma not afraid of competing with San Keylor

At PSG, where he is currently continuing his preparation without having yet played a match, he says he feels "very good, very relaxed": "Last season, the team did not win Ligue 1 but the real objective is different : the Champions League, ”says the Italian goalkeeper, who has never played any C1 game in his career.

As for the competition that awaits him against the experienced Costa Rican Navas, 34, "it's extra motivation, something that fascinates me," he said, not particularly worried.

However, he will have a lot to do to dislodge the former Madrilenian, indisputable holder of the post since his arrival in the capital two years ago.

It remains to be seen how Mauricio Pochettino and his staff will proceed to bring together two such talented goalkeepers without it turning into a giant puzzle.

We wish him good luck.
