It's a very fashionable green trend: Dior, Chanel and Givenchy have gotten into it.

Powdered cosmetics are invading bathrooms.

The program "Bienfait pour vous" looked at this novelty which wants to banish plastic from cosmetic products by meeting two French companies who have made it their specialty.

After solid cosmetics, the craze for a zero waste bathroom goes further with powder care.

The goal is to ban bulky packaging, often plastic.

As a reminder, ten million tonnes of plastic end up in the oceans every year.

And of course, the vast majority of these plastics are not recycled.

The advantage of these products is therefore to enter the bathroom in the form of powder sachets to be diluted with tap water.

The heavyweights of cosmetics are getting started, such as Dior, Chanel or Givenchy.

In France, smaller brands are also very committed.

Where to find these products in France?

Juliette is a family business founded in 2020. It offers small sachets of toothpaste powder or even lavender powder for the hands or for the body.

It must be poured into a little water and mixed to obtain an authentic shower gel.

Karlina Hamain co-founded the brand with her husband.

They are settled in Cabourg, in Normandy and Juliette is the name of their daughter, who was at the origin of their click, during a vacation by the sea.

"We ended up on a beach where there was a lot of plastic waste. Juliette, who was two and a half years old at the time, took some plastic waste in her hands and asked us what it was. was," she recalled.

"It was the trigger for us. We bought the domain name juliette.com the same evening. We had no idea what we were going to do as a project, but we knew that we were going to set up something for her generation and to change its future."

Juliette brand products are available on its website.

It takes about five euros for a sachet of hand wash.

Once diluted, the sachet corresponds to 25 centiliters of product, so it is almost the same price as conventional products and the entire range is Ecocert certified.

Are these products healthier?

The brands that develop these powdered cosmetic and skincare products claim healthy, simple ingredients and a high concentration of active ingredients.

Since there is no water at Perlucine, another French company, there are not even any preservatives in the products.

In addition, all packaging is made from recycled cardboard.

For this brand, everything happens in the west of France.

The products are made from clay that comes from an old salt marsh in Loire-Atlantique.

The second component is the crushed white oyster shell which is picked up by hand on the beaches of Brittany.

"The shells wash up on the beaches during high tides. In summer, it becomes annoying for swimmers, it is perceived as something that is useless, an advantage for us", detailed Anne-Sophie Caillon , Perlucine's marketing manager.

"Instead of tapping into other resources, we have the shell right there, on the beach, so we allowed ourselves to use it."

Rich in calcium, mineral salts and trace elements, the shell is then washed, crushed and reduced to powder in the Perlucine workshops in Allaire, Brittany.
