Al Mahmeed pointed out that following a healthy lifestyle is the best way to avoid cancer, according to what scientific and medical opinions have agreed upon, as simple changes to lifestyle can make a positive difference, and there are things that are recommended to be taken into account to prevent colon cancer, such as avoiding smoking and alcoholic beverages that They cause many cancers, including colon cancer, as well as a healthy diet that includes all nutrients and focus on eating good amounts of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes, reducing processed cold meats and fats, avoiding refined sugars, and not following diets low in fiber and high in fat and calories. .

In addition to taking care of inflammatory bowel diseases, delaying treatment for chronic inflammatory diseases of the colon, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, increases the risk of colon cancer.

She explained that the risk of infection increases if a blood relative of the patient has the disease, and the risk of infection is greater if one or more family members have colon or rectal cancer.

She added that early detection reduces the need for surgery and other medical interventions, and has a major role in achieving better results for patients. The formation of cancerous cells in the colon and rectum, and secondly, like other cancerous tumors, detecting the presence of cancer cells at an early stage allows the patient to be given the required treatment in a timely manner, which speeds up and increases the cases of full recovery.

Pointing out that the type of treatment depends on determining the condition, stage and location of the disease. Surgical intervention is usually done in most cases of the disease, but it varies between simple endoscopic surgeries using special tools to remove some appendages and part of the mucous membrane, and major surgeries to remove parts of the colon in advanced cases of the disease. .

Regarding the symptoms of the disease, Al-Mahmeed said: “Most patients usually do not show any symptoms, so we recommend the necessary early examinations as a preventive measure to detect colorectal cancer. There are some symptoms that appear in patients who show signs of the disease, such as: a change in defecation habits, recurrence of Constipation or diarrhea, abdominal pain or bloating, weight loss for no apparent reason, vomiting and the appearance of blood mixed with stool or its surroundings.
