The Spokesman for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, welcomed the results of the prisoner exchange agreement announced today by the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General Martin Griffiths with the participation of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Colonel Al-Maliki said during the press conference of the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition held in Riyadh today: “The Joint Forces Command of the coalition extends our deep thanks and gratitude to the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross for the efforts made in this aspect regarding the Prisoners Agreement, which It is an extension of what was agreed upon in Stockholm, as announced by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations Martin Griffiths under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and in the presence of the parties to the conflict between the legitimate government and the Houthis and with the participation of the coalition forces that there will be an exchange of 1081 prisoners, and the legitimate government will release 618 prisoners, while The other side will release 400 prisoners, including 15 Saudi soldiers and 4 Sudanese forces. "

Colonel Al-Maliki stressed that the issue of prisoners is of interest to the political and military leadership in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in the countries of the coalition.

Regarding the implementation of the agreement, Colonel Al-Maliki indicated that the implementation plan by the Red Cross includes the transfer of prisoners who will be released, whether from the Yemeni interior or to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, stressing that he will work with the Red Cross and the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations according to the operational plan for the exchange of prisoners.

He said: The fourth meeting has nothing to do with any political movements and the conduct of operations on the ground, but it is a desire from the outcomes of this meeting to be a purely humanitarian issue, and the prisoners and detainees are released as soon as possible, adding that the fourth meeting was held in Geneva, which began on September 17 and ended Yesterday, pointing out that these efforts are an extension of what has been agreed upon by the Yemeni parties and the strong desire to end the file of the prisoners, missing persons, and detainees.

Al-Maliki stated that the aim of this initiative is from the humanitarian aspects and to form a solid and appropriate ground for the Yemeni parties for dialogue and to reach a comprehensive political solution in Yemen, stressing that the leadership of the joint forces of the coalition always works according to the basic principles of the Third Geneva Convention on prisoners, whether in the treatment of prisoners on the battlefield. Or providing them with health care, in addition to providing suitable places for them in accordance with international law and the norms of international humanitarian law.
