By bicycle… According to a survey made public this Thursday by Urban France, an organization that brings together around a hundred large cities and metropolitan areas, cities plan to invest one billion euros in “cycle projects” in the next five years.

"Large cities, towns and cities are fully committed to developing infrastructure and cycling, serving residents and the quality of urban life", assures in a statement the association which identified the amounts of investment planned in “cycling projects” from 2021 to 2026.

The survey collected contributions from 16 metropolises, 4 large cities, including Paris, 5 urban communities, 2 urban communities and one territorial public establishment.

Among these contributions, 868 million euros will be devoted to projects relating to cycle paths, 72 million will go to more global projects, 48 ​​million will be used for cycling "services" projects (rental, repair, etc.) and 15 million will allow the realization of projects relating to parking (arches, boxes, shelters, garages, etc.).

258 projects on one mandate

This total of 28 “cycle sections”, provided for in the multi-year investment programs, “reaches a total amount of one billion euros and represents at least 258 projects on the mandate,” said France Urbaine.

Among these 258 projects, 88 would be ready to be initiated in 2021, for an investment amount of 676 million euros.

They could be supplemented by 62 projects whose initialization is scheduled for 2022, for an investment amount of 136 million euros.
