Chung Mong-gyu, chairman of HDC Hyundai Industrial Development, said he sincerely apologizes and takes responsibility for the collapse that occurred at the redevelopment site in Hakdong District 4, Gwangju.

Chairman Jung held a press conference in the briefing room of Gwangju City Hall today (10th) and said this.

Chairman Jeong promised, "We will do our best to recover the damage and promptly rectify the accident for the victims and their families." He promised, "We will establish company-wide measures to prevent recurrence of such an accident so that it does not happen again."

CEO Kwon Soon-ho said in a question-and-answer session that followed, "We will leave the investigation to the relevant authorities and focus on handling the accident."

Regarding the controversy that a supervisor was not present, CEO Kwon explained, "The supervisory company is to be selected by the redevelopment association and the contract was made for non-resident supervision." "It was understood that there was no supervisor at the time of the accident."

He also denied the allegations of subcontracting the demolition work, saying, "I did not subcontract with Hansol Enterprises outside the contract.

Regarding the construction method in which an excavator demolishes a building on a pile of dirt piled higher than the building, CEO Kwon said, "High-rise buildings are demolished by descending from top to floor, and low-rise buildings are demolished by stacking soil high and going down." He explained that there was no problem with the method.
