Former Seongnam Mayor Choi Yoon-gil was put on trial on charges of receiving 4 billion won in incentives from Hwacheon Daeyu in exchange for helping the Daejang-dong development project while serving as the chairman of the Seongnam City Council in Gyeonggi-do.

The Suwon District Prosecutor's Office's 6th Criminal Division (Prosecutor Kim Byung-moon) announced today (15th) that they had arrested and indicted Choi on charges of bribery after improper treatment.

In addition, the 56-year-old man-bae Kim, the major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu, was indicted without detention on charges of bribing Choi to help him with the Daejang-dong development project.

Kim was arrested and charged with breach of trust under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes in November last year in connection with the Daejang-dong development lobbying case, and is being tried at the Seoul Central District Court.

In March 2012, Mr. Choi received a request from Mr. Kim to 'pass the ordinance on the establishment of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation,' and in February 2013, when he was the mayor of Seongnam, he mobilized dozens of residents through Mr. A and others involved in the city council meeting. It was investigated that he led the behind-the-scenes protest to pass the related ordinance bill outside.

In addition, while the lawmakers who opposed the ordinance bill left the office, the vote was rejected due to the lack of a quorum as a result of electronic voting for the ordinance bill. He is accused of passing the ordinance bill against the principle.

Afterwards, Choi was hired as the vice president of Hwacheon Daeyu in February 2021 and was promised 4 billion won in performance bonus and 84 million won in annual salary from the time the Daejang-dong urban development project was completed. There is also an allegation that he received about 80 million won in the name.

Prosecutors demanded compensation for the 80 million won Choi actually received.
