Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, attended the meeting by video as the Chinese co-chairman and delivered an opening speech.

  Huang Runqiu said that climate change is a common challenge for all mankind.

In May 1992, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (hereinafter referred to as the "Convention") was officially adopted, starting the grand journey of the international community to jointly address climate change.

Over the past 30 years, the Convention, its Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement have witnessed the extraordinary journey we have traveled together.

Today, active response to climate change has become the consensus of mankind, and green and low-carbon transformation has become a global action.

  Huang Runqiu emphasized that the current climate multilateral process has entered a new stage of implementing the Paris Agreement. He hoped that all parties will unite the common will and unswervingly build a fair, reasonable and win-win global climate governance system; strengthen the system concept and incorporate the response to climate change into the The overall framework of national sustainable development, strive to achieve synergy between economic and social development and climate change response; deepen cooperation and mutual learning, continuously improve the level of cooperation, learn from each other's strengths, learn from each other, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, so as to ensure effective responses to climate change.

  Xie Zhenhua pointed out in his speech that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the conclusion of the Convention.

Looking forward to the future, it is hoped that all parties will adhere to multilateralism, maintain the status of the main channel of the Convention, adhere to a pragmatic action orientation and a solution orientation, and promote the formation of synergies between the Convention process and other fields.

The twenty-seventh Conference of the Parties to the Convention (COP27) should focus on implementation, with adaptation and funding as its highlights. China supports Egypt to host a successful COP27.

It is hoped that all parties will implement the principles of common but differentiated responsibilities and institutional arrangements for NDCs, and translate NDC goals into solid actions.

  The Ministerial Conference on Climate Action was co-sponsored by China, the European Union and Canada in 2017.

The meeting focused on climate action and implementation. More than 30 representatives including Executive Vice President of the European Commission Timmermans and Executive Secretary of the Convention Secretariat Espinosa attended the meeting.
