A mysterious illness.

The World Health Organization reported on Wednesday at least 230 cases of severe acute hepatitis of still unknown origin in sick children, particularly in Europe.

If there is no alarming signal in France, surveillance is organised.

At least 230 cases of severe acute hepatitis of still unknown origin in sick children, particularly in Europe, have been identified, indicates the World Health Organization (WHO).

If there is no alarming signal in France, surveillance is organised.

The goal?

Allow to make a report in case of doubt.

Inform the authorities if there is a link with an adenovirus

Faced with a case of infantile hepatitis in a patient under the age of 18, doctors will have to carry out several checks before submitting a report.

After analyzing the symptoms and possible causes of the disease via a check-up, if there is a link with an adenovirus, then the authorities must be informed.

Two French cases detected

Particularity of this virus: it attaches itself to the cells thanks to kinds of thorns to contaminate the organism.

Kind of like Covid-19.

It is this pathogen that is suspected of causing the disease.

If the doctor cannot identify the cause of the hepatitis, then this is also a possible case that must be reported to the authorities.

The blood samples taken must be kept cool before being sent for further analysis.

To date, two French cases have been detected.

Investigations are underway to try to determine the cause of this acute hepatitis.
