English professional football Chelsea defeated Manchester City (Man City, above England) and won the UEFA Champions League (UCL) for the first time in 9 years.

Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the UCL final of the 2020-2021 season held at Dragang Stadium in Porto, Portugal on the 30th (Korean time) by keeping Kai Havertz's winning goal from the last half of the first half.

This marks Chelsea's second UCL title.

Chelsea defeated Bayern Munich (Germany) on penalties in the final of the 2011-2012 season and lifted the 'Big Year' trophy for the first time.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, who led Paris Saint-Germain (PSG, France) to the UCL runner-up last season, achieved his first victory in this tournament in a year.

With this win, Chelsea took home the 19 million euros (about 25.8 billion won) prize money.

The total prize money of this tournament, which Chelsea have earned, is about 80 million euros (110 billion won).

Manchester City failed to win their first UCL title.

Manchester City, who won the Carabao Cup (League Cup) as well as the English Premier League (EPL) for the fifth time this season, and achieved a double (two victories), fell down on the threshold of the treble (three trophies) and swallowed a disappointment.

Manchester City also lost 1-0 to Chelsea in the FA Cup semifinals of the English Football Association this season, failing in the 'domestic treble' (three domestic championships).

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who previously led FC Barcelona (Spain) to two UCL finals in 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 seasons, suffered his first defeat in his third UCL final.

Chelsea took the lead in the 42nd minute when Havertz, who received a penetration pass from Mason Mount, beat the keeper and shot into the empty goal.

Manchester City went on a full offensive in the second half, but Kevin De Bruyne, who designed the attack, collided with Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger and was replaced by Gabriel Jeju in the 14th minute of the second half.

In the end, Chelsea managed to block Manchester City's onslaught until the very end, and Big Year became Chelsea's.

The final was scheduled to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, but the venue was changed to Porto, Portugal as Turkey was designated as a 'travel alert red country' by the British government due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
