China News Service, Beijing, September 21st, title: Chasing light in the material "tunnel"-Interview with Chen Hao, head of the Huijing team

New materials are regarded as a "chassis technology" in the manufacturing industry, and material research and development is an ancient and huge "race track".

The developer in the middle said that he seemed to be walking in a "tunnel" with no end in sight.

"This process is not interesting, many times I feel desperate." Chen Hao, Chairman and CEO of Huijing New Materials, said in an interview with reporters recently.

In his view, this "tunnel" is not "point-to-point" or "straight line".

In it, I don't know how long and how long it will take to get out of the "tunnel". Only the "car lights" are with me, and the only strength is persistence.

What makes Chen Hao delighted is that after more than 20 years of theoretical exploration and repeated experiments, their scientific research team stepped out of the "tunnel" and maturely prepared a single crystal diamond material, and based on this, has successively developed thermally conductive gels. , Thermally conductive gaskets, thermally conductive silicone grease and thermally conductive graphite sheet composites and other high thermal conductivity, high strength and tough metal products and high thermal conductivity products can be widely used in electronic products that require heat dissipation.

They also provide solutions for heat dissipation problems in many business areas such as data center equipment, 5G mobile phones, 5G base stations, chip semiconductors, and industrial consumer products.

Some of these products and solutions are directly related to people's daily lives.

For example, Chen Hao said that the temperature of laser projection equipment may burn human skin. By applying new materials, they combined the heat dissipation and cooling system with the projection equipment to make the product easier to promote and implement.

The heat dissipation module they made has achieved better performance while reducing the cost by one-fifth, which will make the home set-top box and other equipment more refined and beautiful.

Since May of this year, Huijing New Materials has delivered more than 200 more specific solutions, and they have commercialized two of them.

The newly established solution team members come from well-known domestic and foreign companies such as Huawei, Alibaba, Motorola, etc. The solutions designed by them not only use advanced materials to achieve “customization”, but also carry out structural innovations in heat dissipation to provide users The product planning for the next three to five years has reserved space for sustainable development.

Using architecture as an analogy, Chen Hao said that only by combining basic materials, innovative materials and rich design experience can users truly "live in peace."

But he emphasized that they are still moving forward in the "tunnel."

"'Going out' just means a starting point, followed by product iteration, market promotion, etc." Chen Hao said, especially in the field of materials, the international competition is becoming increasingly fierce, and it is urgent to face up to the domestic deficiencies in basic research.

Watching the movie "Qian Xuesen" recently made him feel even more, "We must firmly grasp the core technology."

At the end of last year, a new heat dissipation material project for the Huijing chip led by Wang Chengbiao, chief scientist of the Huijing and a foreign academician of the Russian "two academies", was signed and settled in Hangzhou.

According to public reports, they plan to invest a lot of money in the research and development of in-chip thermal interface material (TIM1) product line to fill some domestic gaps.

Chen Hao said that although Huijing New Materials was established in 2019, the various components themselves have been accumulated and forged for a long time, which also makes them more "sense of mission."

"The carbon category team has worked for more than 20 years, the metal category team has worked for 18 years, and the average operating team has been in business for more than 20 years." He said that many employees have witnessed the whole process of the development and growth of China's new materials and semiconductor industries. Also experienced ups and downs.

Nowadays, everyone gathers and jumps out of the "comfort zone" to start a new material company. It is precisely because they see the importance of this industry in supporting the development of the semiconductor and electronics industries, and want to do something that makes individuals and the country proud.

They hope to use the accumulation of 20 to 30 years to help the country solve a series of problems with technology and products.

Industry scholars once pointed out that compared with developed countries, China's new materials industry started late and its foundation is weak.

At present, the global new material industry has formed a three-tier competition pattern. The first echelon is developed countries and regions such as the United States, Japan, and Europe, and China belongs to the second echelon.

Scholars reminded that China is in a period of strategic transformation and urgently needs to open up new economic growth points and improve environmental carrying capacity, which provides a rare historical opportunity for the great development of new materials in China.

Chen Hao said frankly that the development environment is getting better now, especially the country, market, capital, etc. are paying more and more attention to domestic materials.

While getting the correct guidance, the direction of the company and the team is clearer and more energetic.

On the one hand, do a good job in the market and application; on the other hand, by consolidating basic research, guiding industry demand, forming a virtuous circle.

He told reporters that Mrs. Curie finally discovered a new radioactive element after a long and boring experiment. How bright was that moment.

They will also continue to march forward in the "tunnel" of materials research and development.
