Heat cramps are a common health problem in children, especially those aged six months to five years, according to the German Association of Pediatricians and Adolescents.

The association said that heat spasm in children has several causes, including gastrointestinal infection, upper respiratory infection and influenza, or what is known as the “three-day fever.”

In addition to the convulsions, the child has a fever (body temperature above 38.5 degrees), eyes turning, bluish skin, extreme fatigue and loss of consciousness.

A simple heat-cramping episode lasts about 15 minutes at most, and is often harmless.

The child usually recovers within one to two hours after applying cold compresses and antipyretics.

In the event that the heat convulsive episode lasts longer than that, then an ambulance should be called urgently;

Heat cramps then warn of serious meningitis, which can have serious consequences.
