Mike Hagerty, best known for his role as Janitor Mr. Treeger on the hit '90s series Friends, has died.

This was announced by his acting colleague Bridget Everett on Instagram on Friday.

Everett plays Mike Hagerty's character's daughter on the American Midwest series Somebody Somewhere.

Describing Hagerty as a "dearly loved character actor," Everett added, "His love for his native Chicago and for his family were the cornerstones of his life.

He will be sorely missed.” She did not mention the cause of his death.

Hagerty was 67 years old.

The television station HBO, where "Somebody Somewhere" is running, also commented on Hagerty's death on Instagram.

"We were deeply saddened to learn of Mike Hagerty's death.

He was a longtime member of the HBO family with a special talent for putting his heart into a role."

One of the first internationally known films Hagerty starred in was the 1999 spy comedy Austin Powers.

He also appeared in an episode of the sitcom Seinfeld as a New York City thrift store owner and in the comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

In the cult series Friends, Hagerty is the last character mentioned as the caretaker Mr. Treeger: In the final episode, which aired in 2004, Monica (Courteney Cox) says to Chandler (Matthew Perry), "I almost forgot: I promised Treeger we'd leave our key."
