Following Emmanuel Macron's presidential address on the health crisis on Monday evening, the Minister of Health detailed the constraints that will apply to caregivers reluctant to be vaccinated.

Employers "will be empowered to carry out checks as already exists in common law for other diseases".

Healthcare workers who will not be vaccinated against Covid-19 by September 15 will no longer be able to work and will no longer be paid, Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced on Monday.

"From September 15, if you are a caregiver and you are not vaccinated, you will no longer be able to work and you will no longer be paid", declared Olivier Véran on LCI, after the announcement by President Emmanuel Macron of 'an obligation of vaccination for this category of population, with penalties.

Around 1.5 million people affected

Employers - regional health agencies, school management, health insurance - "will be empowered to carry out checks as already exists in common law for other diseases, in particular hepatitis B", detailed the minister. 

Olivier Véran called on caregivers to be vaccinated "from this evening, from tomorrow", even if they still have a month.

"We are talking about an audience of around 1.5 million people, health professionals, care, in hospitals, nursing homes, at home, firefighters ..."
