  The law authorizes California employees to earn eight hours of holiday credits, which entitle them to eight hours of vacation, annual or compensatory leave to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Newsom wrote in the signed letter that the Chinese New Year celebrates getting rid of the troubles of the past year and moving forward with prosperity and good luck, recognizing the Chinese New Year as a legal holiday in California, and also recognizing the cultural diversity that Asian Americans bring to California. , an opportunity for all Californians to participate in the Chinese New Year.
