Oscar Piastri, his name has been on the lips of all F1 fans since the storm that followed the announcement of his recruitment by Alpine for 2023. We briefly remind you of the facts: the French manufacturer ensures that his little protege will take over by Fernando Alonso, gone to Aston Martin, followed an hour later by a legendary tweet from the young Australian assuring that there is no agreement with.

But who is Oscar Piastri, the rookie pilot that the whole set is tearing up?

He revealed himself in F4

The Melbourne native started his career racing remote control cars at a national level then turned to karting aged ten.

Four years later he participated in national tournaments in his category and finished second in his first race.

During the same year he will finish third in the x30 World finals, an international karting competition taking place at Le Mans.

In an interview, however, he assures that he was not a karting prodigy, and did not stand out.

After a few tests in F4, he knew that single-seaters were his way.

The results will prove him right.

Piastri won the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019, the F3 title in his first season and finally the F2 championship in 2021. Like Chalres Leclerc or Georges Russel.

He was educated at Oxford

Pushed by his father, Piastri moved to England in 2016, torn between returning to Australia to find his family and friends (and the sun), and extending his stay in England for the races, while staying in a boarding school for continue his studies, the young man finally decided to stay at Oxford, one of the most prestigious universities across the Channel.

His manager is a former Australian F1 driver

In 2019, he signed with Jam Sports Management, Mark Webber's agency.

The former RedBull driver took part in 215 Grands Prix between 2002 and 2013, he has 9 victories to his name.

Australian like his protege, he knows the difficulties of winning in Formula 1 when you are an Australian driver.

His hobbies are oriented towards other sports

We learn on the page of his personal website: Oscar Piastri has other hobbies than car racing.

But it also revolves around sport: the young Australian loves basketball, wakeboarding (surfing towed by a boat, to put it simply) and... cricket.

Yes, yes, this incomprehensible sport played by the English.

He is very concerned about preserving his privacy.

Still complicated to know more about the personal life of the future star (?) of F1.

Netflix did not come to shoot at his home, so we still know very little about the young Australian.

His Instagram account thus remains strictly professional, and the media who wanted to investigate his girlfriend got away with it: if she appears once in a photo, Piastri refuses to say more.
