Former France team goalkeeper Bruno Martini has died at the age of 58.

The Montpellier club, in which he played 104 L1 matches between 1995 and 1999 to end his playing career, made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

He signed his first pro contract at Auxerre, his training club, in 1983, a club where he spent most of his career.

He played the first of his 417 L1 games at Nancy, where Auxerre loaned him two seasons in his debut.

Keeper of the Blues from 1987 to 1996 (31 selections), he participated in many epics with AJ Auxerre of Guy Roux.

Whether on French soil (with a French Cup in 1994) or European (semi-final of the UEFA Cup, which became the Europa League, in 1993).

From DTN to the Montpellier training center

A sober character and respected by his peers, the hopeful European champion joined the national technical direction at the end of his playing career.

He took care of the tricolor doormen for eleven years (from 1999 to 2010).

He set up the training of high level goalkeepers.

He then joined the management of the Montpellier training center, of which he was the deputy director.

Holder of the professional trainer's diploma, he also provided with Pascal Baills a short interim at the head of the Montpellier team for nearly two months, after the resignation of Rolland Courbis in December 2015 until the appointment of Frédéric Hantz .

Cardiovascular arrest on October 12

Bruno Martini suffered a cardio-vascular arrest on October 12, in the parking lot of the Grammont training center, when he was about to get into his car.

Urgently transported to Arnaud de Villeneuve hospital, he died there.
