On November 30th, local time, Brazilian President Bolsonaro announced that he would formally join the Liberal Party to win more political resources for the 2022 presidential election.
Bolsonaro's eldest son, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro and the current Minister of Regional Development Rogerio Marinho also joined the party on the same day.
The Brazilian Liberal Party was established in December 2006 and is a center-right party.
Bolsonaro has changed eight parties during his nearly 33 years in politics, and was successfully elected as a candidate of the right-wing Social Liberal Party in the 2018 presidential election.
Due to a dispute within the party, Bolsonaro withdrew from the Social Liberal Party in November 2019 and tried to establish his own party, but he gave up because he failed to obtain sufficient support.
The Liberal Party is the ninth party it has joined.
According to local public opinion analysis, as the presidential election is approaching, the major political forces in Brazil have stepped up to "test each other's positions and adjust their alliance partners."
