Boeing 737 MAX aircraft have been grounded since March 13, 2019 - LERT / SIPA

The test flight necessary for a new certification of the modified Boeing 737 MAX, an essential stage before its return to service, could take place "from the beginning of next week," two sources close to the matter told AFP on Friday.

The 737 MAX has been grounded since March 13, 2019 after the accident of a copy of the Ethiopian Airlines company that left 157 dead. The accident occurred just months after the Lion Air MAX disaster, which killed 189 people.

Civil aviation authorities can only approve the modified version of the aircraft after it has flown. And, given the seriousness and the complexity of the file, several flight tests could be organized to scrutinize if the modifications brought bring maximum safety.
