US President Joe Biden will hold his first summit meeting with President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol on the 21st of next month.
Today (28th), according to multiple officials from the elected Yoon-elect, President Biden is scheduled to visit South Korea from the 20th to the 22nd of next month.
The Korea-US summit with President-elect Yoon was decided to be held on the 21st of next month, the second day of his visit to Korea.
Accordingly, President-elect Yoon held his first ROK-US summit meeting in 11 days, an unprecedentedly fast period since taking office on the 10th of next month.
The White House also officially announced today that President Biden will tour Korea and Japan from the 20th to the 24th of next month.
After visiting Korea first, President Biden will cross over to Japan to attend the Quad Summit, a consultative body to contain China from the United States, Japan, Australia and India.
It is unusual for U.S. presidents to visit Korea first, as their first visit to East Asia has often started with a visit to Japan.
It is the first time in 29 years since then-US President Bill Clinton visited Korea and met with then-President Kim Young-sam in July 1993 that the US president's visit to Korea took place earlier than the first visit to the US since the inauguration of the Korean president.
