The German single mixed relay has just missed a medal at the Biathlon World Championships in Östersund, Sweden. Denise Herrmann and Erik Lesser finished fourth, 8.9 seconds back on the podium.

The gold medal secured the Norwegian team as in the team mixed competition. Marte Olsbu Røiseland and Johannes Thingnes Bø won ahead of Italy (Dorothea Wierer / Lukas Hofer) and Sweden (Hanna Öberg / Sebastian Samuelsson). It was the first time that the single-mixed relay was held at World Championships.

Herrmann, who had become World Champion in the pursuit, had to reload a total of six times. Lesser did not make a single shooting mistake, but could not catch up with the top trio on the short laps.

This leaves it for the German team in five medals (twice gold, once silver, twice bronze), while Norway (three times gold, three times silver, once bronze) further expanded the lead in the medal table.
