Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin is planning a constitutional amendment.

It is planned to amend Article 1 of the state constitution.

There it should be added that Berlin is committed to a united Europe that is committed to democratic, constitutional, social and federal principles.

The House of Representatives will discuss this right at the start of its plenary session today (10:00 a.m.).

The Left Group had requested that the topic be discussed in the current hour - on the occasion of this year's European week, which ends on Sunday.

All parliamentary groups are behind the constitutional amendment, with the exception of the AfD.

In support of their motion, the MEPs argued that German reunification and the European integration process belong together.

German unity would have been inconceivable without European solidarity.

The anchoring of Germany in Europe has constitutional status at the federal level and is now also to be included in the constitution at the state level - as is already the case in a number of other federal states.

For the red-red-green Senate, Senator for Culture and Mayor Klaus Lederer (left) speaks on the subject.
