“For the past fortnight, oyster farmers have been victims of repeated burglaries, explains Olivier Laban, president of the regional shellfish farming committee.
All around the Basin, from Cap-Ferret to Aiguillon, we deplore thefts, intrusions and damage to vehicles, production equipment and funds in the oyster huts as well as in the tastings.

One month before the end-of-year celebrations, the sector is heavily mobilized for this period, which represents up to 60% of its annual turnover.
"Even if surveillance of certain ports is planned from December, we are now calling for a significant reinforcement of the police and gendarmerie forces", continues Olivier Laban.
While the profession is thinking about re-establishing a network of sworn guards (professional oyster farmers or retirees from the profession), it is asking the authorities for help.
