The German automaker Volkswagen (VW) had to temporarily stop the production line in its large American plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, due to a fire.

The factory was evacuated immediately in the morning and the fire extinguished quickly, said plant manager Tom du Plessis on Tuesday.

In the interests of the safety of all employees, production was stopped for the rest of the day. VW is working with the local authorities to clarify the cause of the fire. However, production should be resumed at full capacity tomorrow, Wednesday, continues du Plessis.
