A return to classicism

This Beaujolais new 2021 vintage is first and foremost a return to classicism. It closely resembles the cuvées of the 1980s and 1990s, with a fresh and light wine, grading no more than 12 degrees. It is very different from those of the last few years when the heat waves had produced wines that were much more alcoholic.

The cold and the rain may have played a big role.

The 2021 vintage of Beaujolais Nouveau was indeed impacted by various climatic hazards such as the frost last spring.

"It was a complicated year for the winegrowers", confides Daniel Bulliat, president of Interbeaujolais.

"The spring frost, the climatic conditions in summer very rainy ... This made it possible to have a later vintage, of the order of three weeks more than last year, so it gives a lighter wine, more fruity, more drinkable, with a little less alcohol ", estimates the Beaujeu winegrower.
