Basma Wahba criticizes Hani Shaker: Rap songs are more dangerous than festivals

The Egyptian media, Basma Wahba, joined a number of other artists and public figures who entered the line to prevent the Syndicate of Musical Professions from singing for a large number of festival singers in Egypt.

Basma Wahba criticized the statements of the captain of the musical professions in Egypt, the artist Hani Shaker, in which he praised the singing of rap, and that singing rap is different from the singing of festivals. I did not understand your talk in praise of rap singers at the time when you decided to ban festival singers because it jeopardized Egyptian singing and public taste.”

She continued: "You know that there are some rap songs that are a thousand times more dangerous than festival songs. I expected the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate to cite the singers of Arab bands, not to tell us about the value of rap art because your son and your wife love it."

She concluded: "You are the captain of musicians in a country called Egypt. The history of singing in it is greater, greater, and more important than that the captain of musicians in it prohibits singing, and allows another genre because his family loves him. Where is the justice, Your Excellency the captain?"

Last Wednesday, the Musicians Syndicate issued a decision banning 20 festival singers from singing and holding concerts, the most prominent of whom were Hassan Shakous and Hama Beka.

The union had issued a statement in response to the attack by businessman Naguib Sawiris, in which he criticized the union’s decision and said: “The first time I see a captain for singers, I am very proud of the ban on singing, the audience who decides to hear who and not hear who, not the captain.”

The statement said: "Brother Najib, the union's money is public money, and wasting it is a waste of public money. You can adopt them all, and we will see them at the upcoming El Gouna Festival."
