Elsdorf (dpa / lnw) - A 17-year-old bank employee saved a pensioner (70) from a telephone fraud in Elsdorf (Rhein-Erft district).
The woman wanted to withdraw several thousand euros, the police said on Wednesday.
The young employee became skeptical and alerted the officers.
As the 70-year-old said, the man on the phone had pretended to be a police officer from her home town of Bedburg and claimed that her daughter was involved in an accident with a dead person and now needs bail.
Because a robbery was going on in her actual branch, the old lady should go to the bank in neighboring Elsdorf.
If someone there asked about the high sum, the 70-year-old should tell something about a car repair.
In fact, the bank clerk immediately pricked up his ears.
When the police were already there, the fraudster called the elderly woman's cell phone again.
Apparently he became suspicious and hung up.
The investigation is ongoing.
A total of seven telephone fraud attempts were reported to the police in the Rhein-Erft district on Tuesday.
