Babies of vaccinated mothers are less likely to be hospitalized due to Corona

A study led by US researchers showed that babies born to mothers who were vaccinated during pregnancy were much less likely to be hospitalized due to Covid-19, adding to evidence of the benefits of vaccinating mothers, according to a report by the American New York Times.

A study published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that vaccinating pregnant women against Covid during pregnancy reduced their children's admission to hospital by 61 percent.

The study included 379 hospitalized infants under 6 months of age and tracked whether their mothers had been vaccinated during pregnancy.

The researchers evaluated the success of maternal vaccination in preventing infection in infants by looking at vaccination rates among mothers whose children were hospitalized with Covid-19 compared to those who were hospitalized for other reasons.

The study stated that 84 percent of children who were hospitalized with Covid-19 were born to women who were not vaccinated during pregnancy.

Of the babies admitted to the intensive care unit, 88 percent were born to mothers who had not been vaccinated before or during pregnancy.

The only child who died in the study was born to an unvaccinated mother.

The study reinforces evidence that doses of the COVID-19 vaccine provide protection for children by vaccinating pregnant women.

About 64 percent of the US population is now fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, compared to about 42 percent of pregnant women.

Pregnant women with COVID-19 have higher rates of severe illness or premature birth.

Research has shown that vaccination during pregnancy is safe for mothers and their children, and studies have also shown that pregnant women who contract the coronavirus pass on antibodies to their newborns.

A recent study of more than 40,000 pregnant women found that getting the Covid-19 vaccine was not associated with preterm birth or low birth weight compared to unvaccinated mothers.
