The Japan ITU Association, which is made up of telecommunications carriers, commends engineers who have made international achievements in the fields of information and communication and broadcasting every year, and 31 people have been commended.
Of these, the "Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Award" was originally from NTT and was awarded by Mr. Kohei Sato of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology.
In addition to working on international standards in the field of wireless communications, he was praised for his contribution to the standardization of the next generation of 5G communication standards, which are currently being introduced.
The special award of the "Japan ITU Association Award" was given by Ms. Chieko Asakawa, a fellow of IBM and the director of the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.
As a blind researcher, she developed software that reads out web pages by voice, and was praised for her efforts to develop and popularize robots that support people with disabilities.
In addition, engineers such as telecommunications carriers and broadcasting stations received the Japan ITU Association Award for Achievement and Encouragement.
