A resumption of fire on Saturday in Mostuéjouls burned an additional 500 hectares, bringing to 1,260 the total of hectares destroyed since Monday and causing the preventive evacuation of at least 1,000 people, the prefecture said on Sunday.
The fire, which seemed "in the process of being contained", experienced a "virulent" recovery in the afternoon.
A resumption of fire on Saturday in Mostuéjouls, in Aveyron, burned an additional 500 hectares, bringing to 1,260 the total of hectares destroyed since Monday and causing the preventive evacuation of at least 1,000 people, the prefecture said on Sunday.
The fire, which seemed Saturday around noon "being circumscribed and soon extinguished", experienced a "virulent" recovery in the afternoon, still according to the prefecture.
At least 1,000 people were evacuated from the village of Mostuéjols, about twenty kilometers northeast of Millau, and from six hamlets near this village.
A man charged
"Reinforcements from at least three different departments arrived around one o'clock in the morning" on Sunday, bringing the total number of firefighters on site to 600.
Since Monday, this fire, which did not cause any injuries, had already caused the evacuation of nearly 3,000 people.
They had since been authorized to return to their homes or their place of accommodation when it came to vacationers.
On Wednesday, a man residing in Lozère had been indicted for "involuntary destruction by fire".
He is suspected of having accidentally started the fire, when a metal part of his trailer caused sparks by scraping the ground, setting fire to the vegetation on the side of the road, on the edge of the Aveyron and the Lozere.

In addition, to avoid the risk of fire, the prefecture of Aveyron has in particular temporarily banned sporting events in natural spaces, pyrotechnic shows or "any hunting or destruction activity by firearm taking place in the middle of nature " .
