This is reported by TASS with reference to the Australian Department of Health.

Both cases were recorded in the state of New South Wales.

One of the patients with a confirmed diagnosis is in critical condition in intensive care.

“Two children were hospitalized with a diagnosis of diphtheria, one of them was placed in intensive care,” the press service of the ministry said.

Despite the fact that there is no risk of a massive spread of the disease in the country now, parents of hospitalized minors were advised to take antibiotics to prevent the spread of diphtheria.

In 2021, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine announced the risk of a diphtheria outbreak in the future.

Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko said that it could happen because every second adult is not vaccinated against diphtheria and tetanus.
