While the large e-tron and e-tron Sportback SUVs, and even more so the new e-tron GT sedan, are reserved for a certain elite by their base price exceeding € 70,000, this Q4 turns out to be almost half the price. (from € 43,700) and is in the heart of the compact SUV range, the most popular segment in Europe.

And that's not all: it will be joined at the end of this summer by a more dynamic body version using the Sportback name.

This is to say if Audi intends to make this Q4 a bestseller!

Recycling and technology

On board, the cabin immerses the occupants in a typical Audi atmosphere, understand technological and admirably built.

We are also pleasantly surprised to find a relatively compact screen (10.1 '' as standard, 11.6 '' as an option) to control the multimedia system, supported by very real controls for the air conditioning, so much more practical than this. offered by its cousins VW ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq iV.

Behind the pretty steering wheel with double flats and touch controls, the driver benefits from the Virtual Cockpit as standard, this customizable digital instrument panel displayed on a 10.25 '' screen, supported by a virtual reality head-up display.

The latter projects navigation or safety alerts on the windshield.

It should also be noted that Audi offers seats made from recycled materials, making it possible to reuse 26 1.5l PET bottles per seat.

In all cases the seating comfort is very German, understand particularly firm.

Rather dynamic

This firmness is also found in the damping, which does not fail to show the slightest degradation of the coating, and even more with the 21 '' rims of our test copy.

The firm suspensions, on the other hand, give a certain road dynamism by perfectly containing the roll in curves, which was not gained given the 2 tonnes empty of the machine.

However, the Q4 manages to make completely forget this weight in this version 40 of 204 ch, mid-range offer between the 35 (170 ch) and the 50 (299 ch).

The engine necessarily displays the immediate responsiveness typical of electrics, which can be further intensified by selecting Dynamic mode on Drive Select.

Long distances

Autonomy side, Audi announces 341 km for the entry-level version equipped with a 55 kWh battery, 488 km for the 50 version equipped with an 82 kWh battery, and up to 520 km for the 40 equipped version. of this same battery. During our test, by varying the types of driving and the roads, our average consumption froze around 19 kWh / 100km. Enough to cover more than 400 km in these conditions. A good value provided by the efficiency of energy recovery on deceleration, either automatically, via predictive braking that can anticipate changes in limit, roundabouts and other vehicles, and regenerate accordingly. Or manually, via the paddles on the steering wheel in 3 levels. And to that is added a mode B which reinforces braking, especially intended for trips in town.

But to really optimize the distances, we can count on the Efficiency mode, which notably restricts the speed to 130 km / h, or even on a Range mode if there is a risk of being a little short, which will only keep the minimum vital. electronic organs and restrict the speed to 90 km / h.

In addition, the 40 and 50 versions can swallow fast charges of up to 125 kW on a suitable terminal, making it possible to recover 130 km in about ten minutes.
