China News Agency, Beijing, January 22. News from Sanaa: On January 21, local time, a multinational coalition led by Saudi Arabia attacked a detention center in Saada province in northern Yemen, killing at least 70 people and injuring more than 100.

Al Jazeera reported that according to live video released by Yemen's Houthis, rescuers excavated the remains of victims one after another from the rubble after the detention center was hit by an airstrike.

The head of the local health authority told the Associated Press that the number of victims may increase further because many people were seriously injured.

It is hoped that the international community can send medical personnel and relief supplies.

A telecommunications hub south of Yemen's important port city of Hodeidah was also hit by airstrikes, temporarily disrupting Internet services in Yemen.

Al Jazeera said three children who were playing on a nearby football field were killed in the airstrike.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the airstrike in a statement issued by a spokesman on the 21st, pointing out that attacks on civilians and civilian facilities are prohibited by international humanitarian law.

Guterres called for a swift investigation into the airstrikes to hold them accountable and for an immediate de-escalation of tensions.

In September 2014, the Houthis seized Yemen's capital, Sana'a, and then occupied southern Yemen.

In March 2015, Saudi Arabia led the establishment of a multinational coalition to launch a military operation code-named "Decisive Storm" against the Houthis.

The UAE is one of the important members of the multinational coalition.

In December 2018, under the mediation of the United Nations, the Yemeni government and the Houthis reached an agreement on a ceasefire and exchange of prisoners of war, but soon the two sides accused each other of breaking the ceasefire agreement.

Recently, the situation in Yemen has become increasingly tense.

A fuel tanker explosion and a fire occurred on the 17th in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The Houthis claimed responsibility that day.

The multinational coalition announced in the early hours of the 18th that it had launched air strikes on Yemen's Houthis strongholds and camps in the capital Sana'a, killing at least 12 people.
