Kassel (dpa) - The artist collective “Hannah Arendt Institute for Artivism” (Instar) and its founder Tania Bruguera receive the Arnold Bode Prize 2021, endowed with 10,000 euros. The collective working in Havana is said to “use artistic and discursive means for democratic Transformation processes, ”said the Kassel head of culture, Susanne Völker, explaining the decision on Monday.

The collective she founded in 2015 has the connection between art and activism in its name.
As a “democratic and hierarchical space”, the collective demands social justice and the rule of law.
The award for contemporary art awarded in Kassel is named after the documenta founder.
It is awarded by the city council of Kassel as a board member of the Arnold Bode Foundation on the recommendation of a board of trustees.
When and how the award ceremony will take place will not be decided until later due to the pandemic, the city said.
