As part of the Japanese government's provision of the new coronavirus vaccine overseas, approximately 700,000 doses of vaccine manufactured in Japan have arrived in Sri Lanka.

Through the international framework "COVAX Facility" aiming for fair distribution of vaccines, the Japanese government plans to provide 15 countries such as Cambodia and Iran with a total of about 11 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine manufactured in Japan. It shows and has begun shipping to each country.

We plan to provide Sri Lanka with approximately 1.5 million doses, of which the first 700,000 doses arrived at the airport near Colombo, the largest city, on the 31st.

In Sri Lanka, AstraZeneca vaccine was supplied from neighboring India until March, but after that, the supply stopped due to the explosive spread of infection in India, and more than 500,000 people were supplied for the second time. Since I have been unable to receive the vaccination, I requested the Japanese government to provide it.

In response to the vaccine, Health Minister Wannialatch said, "It would not have been possible without the great support of the Japanese government," and thanked him.

In Sri Lanka, which is a key point in the Indian Ocean, China is investing in infrastructure through the "One Belt, One Road" giant economic zone initiative, and it will supply about 10 million vaccines manufactured by Chinese companies, so-called "vaccine diplomacy." Is being developed.
