The government announced today (24th) that the social distancing adjustment plan to be announced next week will be decided by comprehensively reviewing not only the number of new confirmed cases, but also the seriousness and fatality rate.

Sohn Young-rae, head of the social strategy division at the Central Accident Resolving Headquarters, said at a regular briefing today regarding the new social distancing measures, "The trend of the Corona 19 epidemic needs to be analyzed while observing a little more, but the government thinks that the most important thing is that the spread of the epidemic turns into a declining trend." said.

He said, "Currently, changes are taking place in the seriousness or fatality rate, so it is difficult to evaluate the epidemic situation by focusing only on the number of confirmed cases as before. We will review them,” he said.

The government decided to implement social distancing nationwide earlier this month, and decided to extend the 4th step in the metropolitan area and 3rd step in the non-metropolitan area for 4 weeks until the 3rd of next month.

The social distancing phase is newly decided every two weeks, but considering the Chuseok holiday this month, we decided to temporarily apply it for four weeks.

The two-week distance from the 4th of next month will be announced during the next week.

The government has predicted that if vaccination is expanded while maintaining the current distance, the number of confirmed cases will peak at around 2,300 between the 5th and 20th of this month and then gradually decrease.

However, in the aftermath of the Chuseok holiday, the number of new confirmed cases today reached 2,434, the highest since the Corona 19 incident, and it is expected that the increase will continue until next week. .
