Breitenberg (dpa / lby) - After massive violations of the animal welfare law by a cattle farmer, parts of a dairy farm in Lower Bavaria have been closed.

As the District Office of Passau announced on Wednesday, a farmer in Breitenberg was prohibited from keeping 15 cattle and calves in two stalls that were too small.

There, among other things, the water supply was defective and the lighting was inadequate, said a spokesman.

During the most recent inspection of the farm in January, employees of the veterinary office also found that the farmer had not adequately checked the connection of his animals.

According to the police, a chain had grown into the neck of a cattle and caused pain with every movement.

In the meantime, the farmer had to reduce his cattle keeping from 42 to a maximum of 30 animals, according to the district office.

He has already given the remaining cattle to other farms.

According to the information from the district office, the dairy farm had already been conspicuous in the past.

Regardless of the sanctions imposed by the district office, the public prosecutor and police are now investigating violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
