Mauritania officially announced after midnight Friday-Saturday that Eid Al-Fitr will be today, Saturday, after the sighting of the Shawwal crescent has been confirmed by a mass extender of more than forty people in different regions of the country, making it the only Arab country to announce the confirmation of the sighting of the crescent.

In a speech addressed to the people on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani called on his citizens to prepare for a new stage of coexistence with the emerging Corona virus.

He explained that the second stage we are living in today, due to the high prevalence of the virus, is characterized by a high number of infections and the increasing emergence of societal cases, noting that "our entry at this stage means that we will have to live with this epidemic for a while."

The Mauritanian President said, “We must be aware of this matter clearly, and prepare ourselves to adapt to it, by ensuring the continuity of an investigation, the best possible balance, between the necessity of continuing economic activity and daily life in general, and the necessity of taking the strongest reasons for caution and precaution at the same time. This is the bet we have to win. ”

He added that «the current situation is dangerous and requires the state to strictly enforce compliance with the precautionary measures taken in consideration of the public interest and in full respect for the rights and dignity of the citizen, as it is the first and final goal, for all measures taken.

In Mauritania, confirmed cases were 200 cases and five deaths.

The authorities canceled the Eid and Friday prayers and tightened the curfew during the Eid al-Fitr days, starting from four in the afternoon until six in the morning, provided that the ban returns after the Eid days, that is, from next Tuesday to eight at night until six in the morning for three weeks.
