No respite for the Bouches-du-Rhône firefighters. The day after a fire which devastated 1,025 hectares of vegetation in Martigues and on the Côte Bleue, the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) deplored this Wednesday a "major fire start in Rognac, near Vitrolles in along the A7 motorway. The fire started around 4:20 p.m.

"It is an upward sloping fire, driven by a light southwest wind, fortunately," said Captain Stéphane Guyot, spokesperson for the Bouches-du-Rhône fire department. One hundred firefighters are there. They are supported by seven canadairs and two Dash water bomber planes.

In Martigues, “normal fumaroles”

Contrary to rumors, the A7 motorway is not cut, but firefighters advise against the area, especially in the direction Marseille - Salon de Provence. The cars are moving slowly.

Firefighters are also still present in Martigues, where a fire devastated more than 1,000 hectares between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. “There are times that are normal for a fire of this size,” says captain Stéphane Guyot.

“It is normal to have fumaroles after a fire of this nature and with the temperatures that we know, continues another source within the SDIS 13. There are even a few flames from time to time. But residents can be reassured, the area is well squared. »Around 1,000 firefighters are deployed between Martigues and Sausset-les-Pins, supported by two water bombers.
